Policy
AI & academic integrity
How PassResearch uses AI, what it will never do, and how to stay inside your institution's rules.
Last updated 11 October 2026
Our stance
PassResearch treats AI as a research and editing aid, not as an author. The platform helps you find real sources, organise evidence, structure an argument and improve clarity. It does not write a submission for you to hand in as your own.
What the AI will not do
These are product rules, not merely preferences. The assistant is built so that it cannot quietly break them.
- It does not invent sources, DOIs, quotations, page numbers, statistics or supervisor comments.
- It does not present plausible-looking references that were never retrieved from a provider or saved by you.
- It does not claim a source is verified when only its metadata has been found.
- It does not mark your work as approved, and it does not replace your supervisor.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for checking every claim, citation and quotation against the original source, and for declaring AI assistance where your institution requires it. Requirements vary between institutions; follow the strictest rule that applies to you.
